IN REYKJAVIK

The last time I was in Reykjavík
I was with you
A birthday present
From you to me
Top of my bucket list
To go and see
The Northern Lights

We watched whales
But didnt eat any
We had ten euro pints
And joked 'Where are we? Temple Bar?'
We slow danced in the street
As the soft snow fell around us

Along the Golden Circle
We chased Waterfalls
(Sorry TLC)
We peered down into giant craters
And ran into some dodgy geysers
(Sorry everyone)

We held hands as we passed by
The lonely single gloves of Laugavegur
Our gloves were happy where they were
Feeling lucky to be part of a pair

7 years on
I'm in Reykjavík again
All I ever ask these days is
'Where does the time go?'

It was Winter then
But its Summer now
And nothing seems the same
Sure its like two different countries wha'?

I'm alone this time
(Well, apart from the other 99 Rovers fans here)
And to be honest
Of course, I think of you

Memories of white muddy faces
Monsters straight out of the Blue Lagoon
I remember there was fire blazin'
In a land full of Ice

I remember two different people
To who we are now
It was a different time after all
In what seems like a different life

Now, as I stroll around
I can't seem to find
The lonely single gloves of Laugavegur
Maybe they've gone, moved on
Paired up with another thats just as odd as them

I remember the photo I took of them
How I imagined a lonely single glove
On the day it was left behind
Wondering what their life would be like now

Feeling lost at the beginning no doubt
But as the seasons changed
They'd start to see, that that was the exact place
They were supposed to be

Life goes on
Winters find Summers
Wrongs become rights
Long days journey
Deep into night

In Reykjavik,
That time, we didnt see the Northern lights
The perfect time of year they said
But too many clouds loomed
We were gutted
Brave faces and 'oh well's'

It was still beautiful though
Moments of pure magic
It was like something, dare I say it
Straight out of a fairytale

And yet
We didn't see the lights
Some day eh?
One day

They say
'Whats meant for you won't pass you by'

In Reykjavík,
That Winter, sadly
It wasn't meant to be

It just wasn't meant...

For you and me.
